mini car model
started this the night before last; I was reading about these little cars that are made on the Isle of Man, and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try to model a car-like vehicle. Still has a long way to go, as I want take this all the way through to either Strata or Maya with realistic textures.

slight updates; still fleshing out the body. Also need to decide on how I want to do the wheels.
Umm; who's Jeremy Clarkson? |

That's a really cute lil car! And, a good 3d study too. Looking good!
(I bet these cars stay away from the roads during the yearly, Isle of Man TT motorbike race... it's supposed to be "the most dangerous road race in the world") |

yeah, i know, this isn't the most exciting model in the world compared to some of what I see on this forum. But the things that I see on this forum, and the kind of feedback here that I get on problems when working with Silo have taken me from staring confusedly at a 3D package's interpretation of a bad Boolean operation to really understanding how to put together an Ok-looking model. Still working on this lil' car model...Dasch helped me with finding some errant n-gons, which had bogged me down for a few days. Made good progress on some of the little details, and am wrapping up the overall model for export to Maya...

Looking really good very accurate to original. Hope to see some nice renders when you get it into maya.

dropped it into Maya, though I think I still have some fine-tuning to do on the models. I think my normals got inverted somehow when I created the door handles, and the single tire in the back makes it look like the car is floating. The front of the car needs to be more accurate as well, but I'm fairly happy with the look overall. Just went with a high reflection prodedural with a reflection map for now without spending too much time on the setting/environment. I would like this to eventually be a street scene and have some elements that contextually indicate the small size of the car. Crits welcome; I need to learn how to make it better!

It's looking great! As far as things to add, maybe some more diffraction pattern in the lenses over the lights... and, a tag number. :p

I didn't forget about this lil' car, but I put it to the side until I had some better ideas on how to finish it. The asymmetty of the doors was a stumper for a little while, and I had some geometry problems that I took my time with .I decided to nix the background for now, and just put it on a cyc wall to show the model a bit more cleanly.

I like what you've done, especially the latest renders.
I thought that car might have been the same one that Sam Lowry drives in "Brazil" (which evidently was a Messerschmidt), but it's not. Here's a few other subjects for you ![]() http://www.vintagemicrocar.com/event...oulds_2004.htm |

Nice! many thanks, jned, for the great link with many other interesting cars...the renders were from Maya, almost all modified procedurals or layered shaders except for the license plate and badge (which you can't even see at these angles).

Haha nice model, can't believe people going around with this kind of thing.
The model looks good. Next time you could try to give the tread harder edges. To me the pattern on the tread looks to round but if it is like that I'll be quiet and won't critisize no more ![]() Cheers "ko'gen".

I will be offering the measure drawings and like the locost frames (Super 7 Clones) for free to whoever would like to build them, but since I do not ave access to a real P50, I need all the help I can get to do this. Your detail on this model is outstanding and I hope the pics that I have provided give you some ideas for your drawing. Thanks again. Doug Morency |

Douglas,
I'd love to help bring the Peel to reality in the US; I must confess that though I pored over many photos of the P50, I was not able to find any schematics for exact measurements. I tried to keep it faithful to the images that I found, but at least from the pics that I found, it seems that the Peels were modified quite a bit as they were built. Funny coincidence that in the web gallery in your link of building the frame, there's an enlarged photo of the front view of the P50 driving down the street; I used the exact same pic for my front reference image in Silo. |
