Silo 2.0 Public Beta 1a
This beta is out of date. Please go out one level to the top of the news section to get the latest beta, but read the good stuff below first!
And here you were thinking you'd never get to actually use Silo 2.0 :] A few things to be clear on before we get started: 1) THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE. There are many known bugs, as well as features that are disabled for now. We anticipate adding several more things before the final release, and will be looking for feedback on how to implement those things. So be ready for crashes, be ready for things to be buggy, and be ready to figure out how to repeat those errors so we can take care of them :]. We're releasing this to you now because we think it's at a state where you can start using it for some interesting things and we really value user feedback in the development of Silo, so in summary: 2) ONLY DOWNLOAD THE BETA IF YOU'RE WILLING TO USE IT IN ITS BETA FORMAT 3) You will need your original Silo registration code to activate the beta. This is a public beta for registered users. Anyone who owns a copy of Silo is a registered user. You will want to dig that out... now :]. 4) For now we're only going to open the bug forum for crashing bugs, and hold off on the other bug forums until everyone gets used to things and possibly until we release the next beta version. So DON'T REPORT BUGS OR INCONSISTENCIES IN THE TOOLS FOR NOW, JUST REPEATABLE BUGS THAT CAUSE CRASHES. 5) The danger of releasing a beta to the wider public than our beta team is that people who are unfamiliar with the idea of "betas" will say "hey, this is crashing on me" and go post in places saying "Silo 2.0 is buggy and you should avoid it". We've decided to take that risk based on our desire to not make you guys wait any longer and to start getting everone's feedback, but encourage you, when discussing the beta on other forums and in other places, to not make any presumptions about the stability or features of the release version of Silo 2.0, but acknowledge that many things will change between now and then (as you will see :]). 6) THERE IS NO HELP FILE INCLUDED WITH THIS DOWNLOAD, so to use this beta you're going to need to rely on your knowledge of Silo 1.4 and try to figure things out, and we've set up a forum for Silo 2.0 Beta "how-to's". So you can discuss things there, and we'll try to help as much as we can while not getting too distracted from our main task :]. 7) Please do not post a direct link to the download anywhere, post a link to this thread instead. We want all Silo users who download this to come through this forum so they can read all this caps lock stuff. Well, I think I've about used up all of my caps lock allotment for the day. Have a nice weekend! ... ... ... What, was it this you were looking for? This old thing? Download: This beta is out of date. Please go out one level to the top of the news section to get the latest beta. Edit - A few useful links: Details on using some of the key features are already up in the how to section: http://www.silo3d.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26 A nice thread with works in progress: http://www.silo3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6806 Last edited by Feed; 02-20-2007 at 11:28 PM. |

You're seriously making me contemplate not working tomorrow. but, so that's not looming over your heads (not that it would be hehe) I'll go. ![]() Great job! Pat

There's no pc emulation programs out there for Mac users? I know some Messiah guys were using one to run it on OSX...hmm I suppose that would require purchasing XP though.

Fantastic!
I use Windows so I am used to things crashing repeatedly so the beta is no problem. The thing I will need to get used to is the concept that they will actually get FIXED. ![]() |
